Ugu warns of vandalism

In a statement, the municipality said electrical cables were stolen from the Ugu Pumpstation leaving the pumpstation completely vandalised.

Ugu District Municipality opened a case against a man after a vandalism incident at the Izotsha pump station recently.

In a statement, the municipality said electrical cables were stolen from the Ugu pump station, leaving it completely vandalised.

It added that after a case was opened with Saps, the Ugu Internal Security team visited the site again and found more copper items to be missing.

“Port Shepstone Saps was called again to attend to the crime scene. Our teams proceeded to a scrapyard business in Marburg where they found three men walking towards the scrapyard. It was confirmed that the bags they had been carrying contained stolen items from the vandalised Izotsha pump station. Two of the three men claimed to have been accompanying a man from Mkholombe. He was arrested and taken to Port Shepstone Saps for further processing,” read the statement, adding that the municipality warns people to stop the vandalism of infrastructure.

It added that not only is the destruction of essential government infrastructure a crime, but it also deprives many communities of uninterrupted water supply.
