Mila (5) is junior Africa golf champ

The latest Umkomaas Golf Club news and results.

A total of 167 junior players competed over three days in the SA Kids Junior Africa Challenge at San Lameer last weekend.

Three of Umkomaas Golf Club’s junior members competed, namely twins Rory and Jordan Bernardis and little sister Mila. Mila (5) knocked it out of the park, finishing in first place in the U7 category.
Playing nine holes per day, over three days, Mila shot 201 over the 27 holes.

Her score was good enough to even get to a third place in the U8 category.
Mila qualifies as the U7 Africa Champion to compete in the Champion of Champions tournament scheduled to take place in Ireland in July 2024.

Jordan finished second in the U14 category, scoring 248 over the 54-hole competition.
It was a good weekend for the league teams, too, as the ladies took on Scottburgh at Scottburgh.

Playing in windy conditions, as is usual for August, the ladies did well to hold the home side to a draw, finishing with one win, one loss, and a half.

The men’s Composite League team hosted and put their home knowledge to the test, emerging victors.
The howling wind last Saturday certainly didn’t deter some of the 79 players competing in the seventh round of the Alliance League, with scores in the 90s taking the top three spots.
In first place were ‘The Naickers’ – Tom and Dean Naicker, Kuben Naidoo and Faizel Khan, on an impressive 92 points.

Second and third were decided on count-out on 90 points, with the Umkomaasters – Viv Naicker, Saga Reddy, Barrie and Warren Taylor, securing runner-up spot.

The jackpot was shared between Tash Naicker and Mike Dennison on 11 points.
The hefty two-club pot was shared between Steve Oliver, Mickey Eriksen, Ron Clark and Dean Naicker.

Jordan Bernardis, is the runner-up in the U14 category at the Junior Africa Challenge.
