ANCWL nullifies KZN conference results

Last week, a letter signed by ANCWL secretary-general Nokuthula Nqaba highlighting the decision for the disbandment of the KZN ANCWL was sent to KwaZulu-Natal ANC secretary Bheki Mtolo.

The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) disbanded its recently-elected KwaZulu-Natal structure amid allegations of voting irregularities.

The results of the recent ANCWL provincial elective conference held in Durban from August 4 to 7 were nullified.

Three members from the ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza Region, Sibongile Khathi, Mbali Cele-Luthuli and Thuleleni Khanyase were elected into the ANCWL Provincial Executive Committee.

Khathi was also elected as the spokesperson of the ANCWL in KZN after the conference.

Last week, a letter signed by ANCWL secretary-general Nokuthula Nqaba highlighting the decision for the disbandment of the KZN ANCWL was sent to KwaZulu-Natal ANC secretary Bheki Mtolo.

The letter reads: “Please be advised that the ANC Women’s League national executive committee convened a special national executive committee meeting today, August 18, and has resolved on the nullification of the sixth provincial conference of the ANCWL in KwaZulu-Natal, which took place from August 4 to 7.”

Nqaba added that as a result, the disbanded women’s league cannot undertake any activity under the banner of the league in the province.

“The officials of the NEC will be coming to KwaZulu-Natal to meet the officials of the ANC and structures of the ANCWL this week. Details of these meetings will be communicated in due course,” she said.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected provincial ANCWL secretary, Zama Sokhabase said the structure in KZN was aware of a letter circulating on social media which is purportedly authored by ANCWL Secretary-General, Cde Nokuthula Nqala.

Sokhabase said the contents of this letter have raised concerns, as they suggest that a decision has been taken to nullify the outcome of the recent ANCWL sixth provincial elective conference.

She said it must be noted that the said letter has not been officially communicated to the elected Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the ANCWL in KwaZulu-Natal, but somehow found its way onto social media platforms.

“Up to this point, there has been no formal communication from the national ANCWL regarding the alleged nullification of conference outcomes. Should the contents of the circulating letter prove accurate, the elected ANCWL PEC is committed to pursuing due processes as outlined in the party’s constitution, which include initiating an appeal with the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC). Pending the reception of a proper communique, the elected ANCWL PEC will continue its daily operations as mandated by the conference,” said Sokhabase.

However, ANC KZN spokesperson Mafika Mndebele told Fever that the ANC provincial secretary did receive communication from the ANCWL on the nullification of the ANCWL provincial elective conference results.
He added that they do not deem the newly-elected ANCWL provincial structure as non-existent.

“As the ANC Provincial Executive Committee, we recognise the newly-elected KZN ANCWL since they have appealed to the NEC on the nullification of the votes. Up until investigations have been concluded, we will continue working with the provincial ANCWL,” said Mndebele.
