Horses and fast cars entertain in Oribi

The Paddock Polocrosse Club will host a tournament at the Rust Bucket Museum.

TOP South African polocrosse players will converge on the Oribi area to take part in the ‘SA’s Best’ tournament taking place at the Rust Bucket Oribi Engine Museum this weekend.

There will also be fast cars and plenty more to see at the Rust Bucket where a full programme will keep visitors royally entertained from tomorrow (Friday) right through to Sunday.

The Rust Bucket, a treasure trove of stationary engines, vintage and classic cars and bikes, antique farm implements and all sorts of mechanical wonders from yesteryear, is also the home of the Paddock Polocrosse Club. Situated amidst the Oribi farmlands and sugar cane fields, it borders the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve. A private museum, it is only open to the public on selected weekends.

This open weekend starts on a dramatic note tomorrow (Friday) with the arrival of the Thunder Tour, a group of about 60 V8 cars visiting the South Coast this weekend. They will be at the museum at about 9am. Included in the group are muscle cars, hot rods, street rods and super cars.

The museum will be open to the public, so visitors can chat to the enthusiastic owners, often the builders or restorers of the cars. Refreshments will be available but the kitchen will be closed until dinner on Friday evening, when the polocrosse players and horses will arrive.

On Saturday and Sunday awesome polocrosse will be played by players ranging from tomorrow’s superstars to some of the best in South Africa. Included in the line-up will be a few of the 2015 World Cup players.

On both days the games will start at 8am and finish at about 5pm.

A highlight of the weekend will be the night game for the Peewees, the club’s future stars, that will be played under floodlight on the Saturday at 6pm.

The South Coast Motorcycle and Car Club will do a breakfast run to the museum on the Sunday and will join the players and visitors for a scrumptious ‘Bucket Bites Kitchen and Café’ breakfast. Sports and Specials are heading to the Ingeli show for breakfast but will pop in and join the fun on the way home. Everyone is welcome to come and see the cars and bikes, watch some exciting polocrosse and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Stay on and watch the nail-biting polocrosse finals.

There will be craft stalls, a massage area to relieve aching post-polocrosse muscles, an Oribi Organics display and great catering and bar facilities.
