Principal Odayar retires after stellar career

The staff, SGB and learners of Port Shepstone Secondary wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.

After serving at the helm of Port Shepstone Secondary for eight years, Genganathan Odayar retired at the end of April 2023.

He matriculated at Port Shepstone Secondary School in 1980 and completed his studies at the Springfield College of Education.

He taught at Greytown and Isipingo Secondary School respectively, where he was promoted to acting head of department, early in his career in 1992.

In 1994, he returned to his alma mater and ascended as a senior teacher (1997/98).
He was promoted to head of department for mathematics and sciences (1999 to 2008).
His elevated character and industrious principles allowed him to quickly scaffold up the education fraternity ladder.

In 2009, he was promoted to deputy principal and then in 2015 to principal.
Odayar flanks strong work ethics with a culmination of service of distinction, to the department of education , qualities that made him successful.

He has an affinity towards mathematics the core subject in his career. He is well-known and well- respected in the community for his mathematical prowess.

His service to the institution is truly laudable, unsurpassable and unwavering.

Through his masterful leadership, two matric learners scooped National awards for their impressive results in NSC Examinations. Amongst many accolades, he was also coordinator of the school’s Zenex Programme.

As the school bids farewell we acknowledge a brilliant mathematician, a legendary, supreme leader whose teachings, mentorship and strength will never be forgotten.

Throughout his reign Port Shepstone Secondary maintained its status quo as a school of choice in the Ugu District.

His time ahead will be spent with his wife Vasie and daughter Kemira, who recently graduated from the faculty of veterinary science.
