OPINION: Your neighbour could be desperate for food

"We are already so humiliated and have a low-self-esteem because we cannot provide for our families."

I would like to address a very delicate matter close to my heart.
I am a single parent breadwinner. After my living expenses are paid I do not have one cent left to buy food.

But what a battle it is to find someone or organisation to help you with a food parcel.
And because you are employed they also believe you can afford to buy food.

If you do find someone prepared to help, then they don’t have any stock available at the moment to help you.
And if you strike it lucky to find someone with food available you have to live in a certain area.
Otherwise they are not prepared to help you at all.

These organisations question your whole pedigree and treat you like rubbish as if you are planning on selling the food .
We are already so humiliated and have a low-self-esteem because we cannot provide for our families.
Please people, we are not all bad people just because we are poor.

The people in my suburb care more for animals than for humans. They donate and help where animals are involved but please don’t dare ask for help for humans.

Sadly, also Christians (I am a church attending Christian myself) at Easter and Christmas all you hear is ‘we must help the ones who don`t have’ and ‘we must share and reach out’.

Well, not one person asked me on those two occasions if I have food on the table.
It is so sad that the people from the South Coast don’t care about their neighbours who could be desperate for food.
