Cops crackdown operation yields results in Harding

A home-made revolver was found, as well as ammunition and drugs.

A recent successful operation has shown the police‘s commitment in promoting a safer Harding.

Members from Saps Port Shepstone K9, Public Order Police and Saps Harding were patrolling just before midnight on March 14, when they came across a Mazda CX5 parked off in Mazakhele area.

After a search was done, a home-made revolver was found, as well as ammunition and drugs.
Cops arrested a man (33) and charged him for possession of drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said the operation continued into the early hours of March 15, where members proceeded to Kwezi Ward at 03:40.

A search was conducted and one .38 revolver was found on a man (29), concealed in his pants.

“A search was further done of a residence and a home-made shotgun, 9mm pistol as well as live shotgun rounds, live 9mm rounds and .38 live rounds were found,” said Capt Mpinge.

Police arrested the man for possession of unlicensed firearms and unlicensed ammunition.

Members thereafter proceeded to Peterson Street where a man (37) was arrested for possession of drugs. Straws of crystal meth and cash were confiscated by police as evidence. He will appear in court on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele is pleased with the recovery and arrests and is determined to increase the pressure on persons in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, which is the a contributing factor to serious and violent crimes.
