Family of missing teen thanks rescue teams

The teen was swept out to sea while swimming at Granny’s Pool, Port Edward on March 5.

The Smith family of Port Edward would like to give their heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped in the search for missing, Troy Smith (19).

Troy was swept out to sea while swimming at Granny’s Pool, Port Edward on Sunday, March 5 at 15:54.
The NSRI Port Edward rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 7 was launched.

On arrival at the beach, only a few minutes after being activated, NSRI rescue swimmers spotted Troy behind the breakers but on reaching that area he had disappeared under water. An extensive sea and shoreline search continued but revealed no sign of him.
NSRI Port Edward crew assisted the Police Search and Rescue team which continued an ongoing search last week, but to date, there is no sign of the missing teen.

Troy’s distraught father, Mark and his wife, Jinine and his daughter Jade thanked the police and NSRI, Port Edward duty crew for their assistance during this extremely difficult time.

Mark extended a special thanks to NSRI Port Edward station commander, Gert du Plessis.
The family had relocated to the South Coast from Mpumalanga about a year ago, and is shattered by the tragic loss of Troy.
