Sheppie High’s touch rugby girls’ teams shine bright

The first team won 10-0 against Durban Girls.

Port Shepstone High School has been a hive of activity over the past few weeks and formal assessments have officially begun.

Learners have enjoyed a fruitful first term so far, with many exciting extra-mural and sporting highlights, interspersed with the rigorous academic programme.

The school is grateful to the dedicated members from the Saps FCS Unit (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit) who visited the school last Friday, and addressed our learners in separate male and female assemblies. They spoke about various pertinent issues and their consequences, such as harassment, body shaming, bullying and respect. These are vitally important topics to be addressed and the learners responded very well to their visit.

Sergeant Nokwazi Mhlanga from the Saps FCS Unit spoke to female learners about relevant and relatable issues facing the youth today.

On the sporting front, the Touch Rugby girls have performed exceptionally this season and ended on a high at the Durban League finals. The first team won 10-0 against Durban Girls. The second team won their game 4-2 against Northlands Girls.
Jardel Faro and Okuhle Mchunu competed in the KZN Schools’ Athletics Trials last weekend, where Jardel came fifth in the 800m and ninth in the 1500m U18 events.

Okuhle came first in the 100m and third in the 200m U15 events. These are excellent results from two dedicated athletes.
The swimming team participated in a medley gala at Southcity last Wednesday. There was some stellar swimming demonstrated and incredible school spirit. The boys did well in the Open Medley Relay, where they put on a dominating display of strength and teamwork.
The first team rugby boys gave their all against Hillcrest last Friday, but were sadly beaten 19-7.
