Housing project to benefit wards in Umdoni

The KwaCele Rural Housing Project was proposed in 2016, saying that after following all the necessary procedures, it was now time to start the work.

Umdoni Municipality along with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements and Public Works recently presented the KwaCele Rural Housing Project for Wards 17, 18 and 19.

Umdoni Municipality said according to the approved housing plan, the total number of houses to be built is 2000, adding that in the first phase of the financial year, 300 houses will be built.

It added that the KwaCele Rural Housing Project was proposed in 2016, saying that after following all the necessary procedures, it is now time to start the work.

“Since the Umdoni Municipality and the KZN Department of Human Settlements and Public Works have visited the affected communities, they also formally introduced the company that will be responsible for the proper implementation of the project, known as the implementing agent, VNA Consulting. The KwaCele Traditional Council accepted the project and committed to work in collaboration with the municipality, the department and all the agencies that will be part of this project,” said the municipality, adding that the project has presented new hope for residents of Wards 17, 18 and 19.

The municipality also said the appointment of a project steering committee will now follow, adding that the committee will supervise the work, and make sure that everything goes smoothly.
