Margate’s Mardi Gras makes magical come back

Next month's event is expected to be even bigger.

Margate’s first Mardi Gras of the year held on Valentine’s Day (Tuesday, February 14) was a roaring success.

Margate’s beachfront with its famous show of palm trees didn’t fail to disappoint and it was a balmy summer’s evening under the stars.

Stephen Herbst of Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate said the event was a knockout success with about 1500 people attending the evening.

Dancers, clowns and Margate Pipes and Drums and so much more made the evening a festive and fun family experience.

“The food stalls ran out and vendors could not believe the interest. Not a single open alcohol drink among the crowd and the feeling of diverse community and good family fun was had,” he said.

Next month’s event is expected to be even bigger.
