A woman and a man also armed with a knife was arrested at the scene.

A Lazer 911 security officer shot dead a knife-wielding man who was posing as an Eskom employee in Marburg last week.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge it is believed that the fake employee attacked the reaction officer with a knife.

“Police officers from Port Shepstone Saps responded to the scene of a shooting on Willow Park Avenue, Marburg at about 06:50 last Wednesday. An unknown man allegedly became aggressive with security officers who had responded to a call out. The man drew a long knife in an attempt to stab the armed reaction officer.”

“It is further alleged that the officer fired a shot injuring the man in the head. Paramedics arrived on scene and the man was transported to hospital where he later died. A murder case has been opened for investigation,” said Captain Mpinge.

It was reported by the security company that a second suspect also tried to approach the security officer. The suspect was warned to drop his knife which he did and was arrested. A woman was also arrested and handed over to the police.
