Track Torque: Max magnificent in Mexico

We now move across to another great race track in Sao Paulo for the Brazilian Grand Prix in two weeks' time on November 13.

Max Verstappen was in a class of his own at the Autodromo Rodrigeuz in Mexico city. He started off in pole position and blew off the field in world championship fashion.

In second place, 15 seconds behind at the finish, was Lewis Hamilton after chasing hard for all of the race.

The other man of the moment for his home crowd was Sergio Perez who finished third, just three seconds behind Hamilton in his Red Bull which he just could not paddle as fast as his teammate’s canoe.

The crowd loved it but really wanted a win out of ‘Cheko’, their hero.

It was a good race with a big and very enthusiastic crowd which chanted continuously every time that Perez came round.

George Russell, in the second Merc, finished fourth, after another very good showing and took the fastest lap to boot.

A little way further back were the two Ferraris, in disappointing positions of fifth and sixth, with Carlos Sainz ahead of Charles Leclerc.

The Prancing Horses have been quicker than the Silver Arrows team for most of the season.

The Mercs, however, are getting faster, which augurs well for next year when, I think we will have some very close racing.

Poor Fernando Alonso, in the Alpine Renault, retired with engine trouble near the end of the race after lying seventh for most of it after an extremely good drive.

His place was taken by Daniel Ricciardo who really got a move on this time around.

Next up was Esteban Ocon, eighth, in the other Alpine Renault while Lando Norris finished ninth and after a classy drive came Valtteri Bottas in his Alfa Romeo earning just one point for tenth spot.

We now move across to another great race track in Sao Paulo for the Brazilian Grand Prix in two weeks’ time on November 13.

With the gaps between the cars’ performances closing as we reach the penultimate race, at the fabulous Interlagos track, I expect a ding-dong battle.

It is often wet in Sao Paulo at this time of the year and this could make it even more exciting.
