Rape suspect abandons bail again

Mtwalume rape accused will re-appear in Umzube Magistrates Court on November 8

The Mtwalume Ward 20 rape suspect abandoned his bail application after he appeared at the Umzumbe Magistrates Court for the fourth time on Tuesday last week.

The 40-year-old suspect is allegedly accused for raping five boys, aged 13 to 15 since 2020 and has been threatening to kill them if they speak out.

The boys’ families were also quiet about the matter and chose to rather move the boys for their own safety, however one family was brave enough to open a case with the support of the Mtwalume Women’s Organisation, chaired by Nombuso Sibisi.

The women in the area protested outside the court demanding the man not be released until all evidence is brought before court, and all investigations are concluded.

Sibisi said: “As the women of Mtwalume we are grateful that the culprit is still behind bars.

“We hope that he faces the mighty arm of the law and that justice will be served for all the victims and their families,”Sibisi added.

After the suspect chose to abandon his bail, Umzumbe Magistrates court postponed the case to November 8. Investigations are still continuing.
