EFF member shot dead

Lungelo Mbhele died on the scene while another EFF member sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital.

The branch leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Ward 33, Lungelo Mbhele was shot dead at his work place in Ezingolweni recently.

Ugu EFF regional chairperson, Ncedo Njenga said Mbhele was with another member of the EFF when the incident happened.
Njenga said the two members of the EFF were allegedly killed when unknown men entered their place of work and fired shots at them.

He added that Mbhele died on the scene while the other EFF member sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital.
“The EFF mourns the passing of Lungelo Mbhele who was a branch leader at Ward 33 in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality. Mbhele was brutally shot and killed at his place of work in Ezingolweni,” he said.

Njenga described Mbhele as a hardworking, dedicated fighter who represented the organisation very well.
He said Mbhele will be remembered as one of the disciplined and fearless fighters of our movement, the ground force and leader of the branch.

Meanwhile the Ugu EFF regional secretary, Bonnie Duma has called on the South African police to leave no stone unturned on their investigation, and ensure that the killers are captured and face the law.

“We send our heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire region, to the Mbhele family and friends. May his spirit continue to be with us in championing the revolution and we vow to indeed continue the fight for economic freedom in our lifetime. We are in close contact with the family,” said Duma.
