Esayidi College hosts sports tournament

The idea behind the tournament was to expose students to external teams and to be selected for the first team of the campus.

The South African Students Congress (Sasco) at the Esayidi TVET College, Gamalakhe Campus recently held a sports tournament, the Sasco Gusha Tournament.

This is where students within competed for a sheep in sports such as netball and soccer.
According to Sasco Gamalakhe Campus spokesperson, Azole Jezile, the Gusha Tournament was a great success.

Jezile said the event was a success because of the number of students and community members who came to witness the tournament on campus.

He added that the idea behind the tournament was to expose students to external teams and to be selected for the first team of the campus.

“As we all know that mental health is a big problem faced by students around the world, whereby students get depressed because of the challenges they face every day and their bodies fail to fight because they are not physically fit as it is said a healthy body is equivalent to a healthy mind, in all students benefitted health wise,” said Jezile.

Meanwhile, Thandolwethu Mseleku who is studying towards Business Management at Esayidi TVET College played one of the netball games. She said winning the sheep would bond them as the campus’ netball team since they are about to start with their trial exams.
Also, the Sasco spokesperson said they are planning to have another Gusha Tournament next year, adding that they want to bring more sport codes such as basketball, volleyball, and debates.

Jezile said as Sasco on the Gamalakhe Campus they have other programmes that will take place this year, saying that the first one will be an exam prayer on October 22.
He said they also need a disability day.

“We feel that the ground is fertile for 2023 elections, students know that we are working with them not with only entertainment programmes but academically as well and back to school programmes where we assist with NSFAS applications,” said Jezile.
