‘Leaders silent on loadshedding’

Ugu District Municipality said in a recent statement that the extent of devastation caused by constant Eskom power blackouts during the past week has resulted in major water supply disruptions across the district.

The leader of the National Religious Freedom Party (NRFP), Wilson Ngcobo has raised concerns on the silence from local political leadership on the ongoing stages of loadshedding.

Ngcobo told Fever that he knows the impact the blackouts have had on the people living on the South Coast.

He said since loadshedding started, no one from national, provincial or local municipalities has even apologised to residents for the inconvience.

“Since loadshedding started, no one has offered our people any apology. People can’t cook whenever they want and they can’t bath whenever they want. Even when there is no electricity or water, you will never see us paying a lower price because those services are temporarily unavailable. It seems that we are still going to have to tolerate this ongoing problem but why are political leaders not saying anything about it,” asked Ngcobo.

He added: “I know how much damage this loadshedding has done to the people of South Africa. And for that reason, I want to say to the community at large that I am sorry that they have to go through this.”

Meanwhile, Ugu District Municipality said in a recent statement that the extent of devastation caused by constant Eskom power blackouts during the past week has resulted in major water supply disruptions across the district.

It added that it is because most water treatment works are highly reliant on the Eskom power supply to operate effectively.

Ugu municipal spokesperson, France Zama, said following the implementation of stage 3 loadshedding recently, the municipality has earnestly resumed with the process of recovering and restoration of most water supply systems which have been gravely affected by the constant blackouts.

“Water relief supply operations through water tankers has resumed as most of our water tanker filling points have gradually improved. Relief supply will be prioritised to areas which were hugely affected by water supply disruptions considering the limited available resources in this regard. And we therefore appeal for calm and maximum level of patience from our residence while the municipality continues to affect recovery measures of water supply systems during this period,” said Zama.
