Designers to showcase at Durban Fashion Fair

The event will include workshops, shows, a buyer’s lounge, emerging local and international designers.

Two students from the Esayidi Fashion School will be showcasing their designs at this year’s Durban Fashion Fair Designer.

According to the founder of Esayidi Fashion School, Zama Mbhele the four-day fashion event started on September 21 and runs until the 24th.

She added that the event will include workshops, shows, a buyer’s lounge, emerging local and international designers.

Mbhele said the two designers who will be showcasing are Nombuso Ngwazi who is from kwaMadlala under Ward 14 and Thandokazi Mguzulwa from Margate Extension 3, adding that both designers are currently studying at Esayidi Fashion School.

“It has been weeks of sewing and pattern making for these two, we selected them according to their unique abilities and by assessing their pattern skills, garment construction methods and design interpretation. This year’s theme is ‘Expressive Expression’ so you need to expect extravagance and drama. They will be showcasing five looks each under the banner of South Coast Designers which is headed by a renowned designer and entrepreneur Makhosi Ntshangase of Sistas Felas. Their show will be on September 22 at 6pm at the Durban International Convention Centre,” said Mbhele, adding that the Durban Fashion Fair is one of the leading fashion events in Africa.

Meanwhile, one of the designers, Mguzulwa said: “I am very excited to be granted such a big opportunity, as an upcoming young designer. To be part of the biggest fashion event in the province means I can achieve anything and everything I set my mind to.”

Also, Ngwazi said she will be showcasing high fashion couture ladies wear, adding that she would love to own a fashion studio one day where she will be able to create employment and expand her fashion label.
