Man in custody for possession of heroin capsules

A thorough search of the vehicle was made and drugs were found in the headlight of the vehicle.

Over 440 heroin capsules were confiscated by Margate police on Friday, September 9.

Margate police spokesperson, Sergeant Sibu Ncane said the Margate Drug Task Team received information on a man who was transporting drugs in Margate Extension 3.

Ncane said when SAPS members responded and targeted a vehicle fitting the given description, a thorough search of the vehicle was done and drugs were found in the headlight of the vehicle.

He added that further investigation led police to the driver’s residence where another man aged 34 was arrested.

Ncane said in another operation conducted at the Margate Taxi Rank, a 31-year-old man was arrested and then charged for dealing in drugs.

“Members then acted on information of drugs in transit and stopped a Toyota Quantum at St Michaels where a 27-year old man was searched and found in possession of drugs. All the accused appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court and the matter was postponed to December 19 for further investigation. The accused remain in police custody,” said Ncane.

He added that Margate Station Commander, Brigadier William Slabbert commended the members for the fight against drugs in their policing area, as well as, the public for reporting drug dealers.
