Proton equals affordable luxury

The new Proton takes affordable luxury to the next level.

Hibiscus Motor Sales (HMS), which to date has comprised Haval and GWM Shelly Beach, has added another brand to its stable in the affordable luxury vehicle, Proton.

HMS, which started with Haval Shelly Beach before adding GWM and now Proton, has experienced unprecedented growth, with its owners and staff vastly experienced and well known in the motoring industry.

Owner Noel Allchin said customers can be confident in the same levels of service, availability of parts, integrity and value-for-money offerings.

“We have provided our loyal customers on the South Coast with a market leading SUV, Haval. Haval has proven to be a fantastic solution for families who look to combat ever increasing costs, putting pressure on disposable income. Maintaining our endeavours in combatting ever increasing motor vehicle prices we now compliment our offering adding an Affordable Luxury package, the Proton Range” .

Dealer Principal, Ronald Oelofse, said the launch marked Proton’s re-entry into the South African market, following its acquisition by Geely, which also owns respected car brand Volvo.

Proton has been brought in by Combined Motor Holdings (CMH), one of the oldest and most reliable motor groups in the country.

The Proton, X50 and X70, produced in Malaysia, both feature a 1.5-l, three-cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine which produces up to 132kW of power and 255Nm of torque.

Geely and Volvo combined forces to produce this powerful engine, resulting in a class-leading motor that is fuel-efficient and reliable.

The X50 premium is certainly stepping into what HMS is calling ‘affordable luxury’.

These new models offer advanced features and performance on par with many other luxury brands.

Pricing for the full range of the X50: standard R449 900; luxury R499 900; executive R535 900 and premium R579 900.

X70 pricing: standard 2WD – R529 900; executive 2WD – R579 900; executive AWD – R629 900 and premium 2WD – R639 900.
