Four dead in separate shooting incidents

Police say the motive for the killings is unknown.

Two separate incidents left four people dead and six others injured last weekend.

A man’s body with a gunshot wound to the head was discovered by police in Piet Retief Road, Margate on Friday August 26, at 22:45. Four occupants of a vehicle also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Margate police station for investigation.

In a second incident on Sunday evening, August 27, a 38-year-old driver was travelling with four passengers at Thongasi area in KwaNzimakwe when they were shot by unknown people.

“The driver (38) along with two women passengers, aged 30 and 35, were confirmed dead at the scene. Two injured passengers were taken to hospital for medical attention,” said Lt Gwala.

Three counts of murder and two of attempted murder were opened at Port Edward police station.

In both cases, the motive for the killings is unknown.
