Harmful nature of waste plastic highlighted

Many marine animals and birds are injured or killed.

Plastic waste is one of the most pressing human health and environmental concerns, says Grade 3 learners of Marburg Primary.

Attempts to create awareness must start in schools where all learners are made aware of the harmful nature of waste plastic to animal and bird life along our beautiful coast.

Plastic waste that finds its way to our beautiful Blue Flag beaches cause injury and death to numerous marine animals and birds along the South Coast.

They either become entangled in it, or they mistake it for prey and eat it.

Grade 3B learners showed their love for marine life. They made posters, sang songs and provided a talk to highlight the importance of creating a sustainable life in our vast oceans.
