Cyclist in serious condition after hit-and-run in Leisure Bay

The cyclist was taken to hospital by Netcare 911 paramedics.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 had to deal with two separate accidents involving cyclists in the last 24 hours.

Paramedics last night (20th) attended to a cyclist, a man in his late 50s, who was injured on the R61 near the Caltex in Thongasi, Leisure Bay at about 18:30.

Shaun Herbst, spokesman of Netcare 911, confirmed that Netcare paramedics attended what they said was a hit-and-run incident.

“The man had a head injury, a fractured femur and was in a serious condition. We transported him to hospital,” he said.

In another incident, this one taking place in Margate this morning (21st) at 07:00, a man riding a bicycle was involved in a collision with a 58-year-old female pedestrian.

The woman was transported to hospital with possible rib fractures and facial injuries.
