Taxi driver gunned down in Harding

The motive for the killing is unknown.

A 38-year-old taxi driver was shot dead in his taxi in Harding on Monday.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the motive for the killing is unknown.

Ngcobo said a case of murder was opened at Harding police station for investigation.

“It is alleged that a 38-year-old man was at the taxi rank in Harding when he was fatally shot by unknown suspects. The motive for the killing is unknown,” said Ngcobo.

Meanwhile, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Mduduzi Makhunga, told Fever that everyone is confused as to who is shooting who and why.

He added that although the SANTACO in Ugu has not reported the recent shooting to the province, they cannot deny that taxi operators are being killed.

“Recently, KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi held a meeting for taxi operators in the Ugu and Harry Gwala districts to find out what the issue is and possible solutions,” said Makhunga.

He added that the shootings in the taxi industry must come to an end, saying that those who have useful information on who is behind them must contact the police.

Also, there have been unconfirmed reports for Harding residents on a series of shootings and killings that have been happening in the area recently.
