Shock find for anti-snare group

You will be surprised what is taking place in and around your very own neighbourhood.

Who would have thought that snares could be placed in a residential area, right next door to your house?

The concerning discovery came after an Anerley couple lost their dog, only for it to be found trapped in a snare, a few metres from their home, hours later.

The South Coast Anti-Snaring group swept through an area in Anerley last Saturday, and found nine snares.

“Our latest ‘snare hunt’ was done after dogs belonging to friends of ours went missing in their neighbourhood. Luckily they were found the same afternoon, but one was found caught in a snare,” said Craig Saunders, founder of the group.

“At the end of the day, the dogs are safe and back home. Hopefully this will spread more awareness about how bad the situation is, and for residents to be aware of their surroundings.”

Another patrol will be planned soon in the Southport area.

South Coast Anti-Snaring is a volunteer based, non-profit organisation which tracks down and removes snares.
