Communities unite against crime
Police encouraged local communities to report crime, educated them on crime related matters and hosted a fun day for all to enjoy.
Scottburgh Saps hosted a recent awareness campaign at Celekhule school grounds, KwaCele to encourage communities to unite in the fight against crime.
The event was piloted by Scottburgh Saps together with its community police forum connected with Correctional Services and Department of Education.
One of the highlights of the event was the talented Saps band which graciously opened the event with the national anthem.
People of all ages attended and were addressed on topics such as gender based violence, bullying, teenage pregnancy, drugs, dangerous weapons and general crime awareness.
Port Shepstone Public Order Policing simulated a crowd control and management episode and the Umzinto K9 unit members promoted their handling skills.
Soccer and chess games were also thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Scottburgh’s station commander, Colonel Ralph Ruiters attended the event with other commanders, members of the station and Ugu District’s Men for Change and Women’s Network.
The public is once again reminded to report all criminal activities to their nearest police station to do their part in the fight against crime.
