Taxi driver gunned down

The taxi driver sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The family of taxi driver, Khaya Shazi is in mourning after he was shot dead at the Murchison taxi rank, last Friday morning.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it is believed that the 40-year-old man was stationary in his taxi at Murchison taxi rank when he was shot and killed by unknown suspects.

“The taxi driver sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown. A case of murder is being investigated by Port Shepstone Saps.”

His taxi rolled down an embarkment into nearby premises where it came to a stop. It is further stated that suspects ran into a silver vehicle and drove in an unknown direction.

Police found 15 9mm cartridges at the scene.

It is also believed that this incident is a result of ongoing taxi violence in the area.

Police are investigating.
