Juniors show resilience at Rotary golf day

As a result, it was agreed to split the prizes and have part one last Saturday and part two this coming Saturday.

The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone’s fundraising golf day to raise funds for a borehole at the Flower Foundation was held at the country club last Saturday.

Well, sort of.

It wasn’t a lack of a consistent water supply – like that experienced at the foundation due to Ugu’s woes, but rather too much rain which fell.

As a result, it was agreed to split the prizes and have part one last Saturday and part two this coming Saturday.

The afternoon actually turned out pretty well and although the course was shortened in places where it was just too wet, overall the golfers had a good time.

Winners were Wayne Scrooby and Daryl D’arcy on 46 points, with Hans and Marietjie Stols next on 39 points, counting out Daan Swanepoel and George Bowie.

Rotary president Shamin Maharaj said one of the highlights of the day was the contingent of juniors who played, 13 in total.

“We encouraged the schools to participate and encouraged them to do so by allowing them to keep 50% of the registration fee for their interact club projects. It taught them organisation skills, financial management and youth development, which is our huge focus,” she said.

The winner of this section was Noah Thomas.

The previous Wednesday’s competition at the club was won by Gary Vogt and Allan Rowley on 45 points, by one from Paul Bunge and Eddie Fann, as well as Basil King and Albert dos Santos.
