Modest scores as windy conditions challenge golfers

The wind direction was not the friendliest and elongated many of the tougher holes and so it was not a surprise.

Whilst the wind was a welcome respite from the hot and humid conditions, it began pumping rather heavily by midday and created some additional challenge for the golfers at Umkomaas last Saturday.

The wind direction was not the friendliest and elongated many of the tougher holes and so it was not a surprise that the scores were relatively modest.

Finishing in top spot, by way of three-way count-out, on a very respectable 41 points were Kavish Seepershad and Saga Reddy.

Second place was secured by Graeme and Chris Coxell, with Dean Naicker and Kuben Naidoo taking third place also on 41 points.

Fourth place on 40 points was won by Bruce Sutcliffe and Eugene Van Wyk. Well done gents.

Bruce Sutcliffe amassed 11 points on the four jackpot holes to walk away with the cash, and Dave Kemp’s lone birdie on the 9th was enough to see him bag all the 2-club winnings.

It really does seem that if you want to shoot the lights out, you should come down and join in the mid-week IPS competition. All four of the prize winners shot better than their handicaps.

This week’s winner was Willie Boucher who scored an exceptional 44 points. Presumably the handicap got chopped as soon as that score entered the system.

Second place on 41 points, was Brian Kassel. And Mike Dennison’s 38 points (on count-out) saw him take third spot from Richard Andersson, who had to settle for fourth.

The BetterBall Bonus Bogey is this Saturday (19th). If you’d like to join in, please contact Francois or Charmaine in the Pro Shop on 039 9731042 to book your tee time.
