Christo and Natalie crowned monthly mug winners

Scores were good and are a testament to the great work being done on the golf course by the small, yet dedicated greens team.

The predicted rain held off and the lower temperatures were welcomed by the players who took on the monthly medal challenge at Umkomaas Golf Club last week Saturday. Scores were good and are a testament to the great work being done on the golf course by our small, yet dedicated greens team. Thanks too, must go to the members who are volunteering their time and muscles to improvement projects around the club and golf course.

The men’s monthly mug, proudly sponsored by Halfway Toyota Malanda, was won by Christo van der Heever on an excellent nett 66. His excellent form saw him take top spot in the C division on 40 points and the jackpot with an outstanding 11 points. No doubt he will be competing in the B division soon.

A division winner was Mike Dennison on 37 points with John Webster runner-up on 36 points. B division top honours went to Grant Haupt on an excellent 37 points, with Don Bradshaw’s 34 points enough to secure him second spot. C division runner-up was Alwyn Stander on 38 points. He also took all the 2-club money with his birdie on the 9th hole.

It’s wonderful to see the ladies section growing and that two divisional competitions can be held on medal day. The silver division was hotly contested and came down to one shot difference, with Natalie Singer managing to beat Heather Parsonage whose putter was on fire, earning her best putts bragging rights with just 30 putts in the round.

Silver division champ, Natalie Singer.

Natalie’s nett 74 was enough to win both the silver division, and the ladies monthly glass, sponsored by Halfway Toyota Malanda. The bronze division was Sue Boucher with nett 77.

Round two of the Betterball League takes place this Saturday. The league runs February to November, but with best seven out of 10 scores to count, there is still an opportunity to enter your team.

The St. Patrick’s Day dinner, with live music, is happening on Tuesday, March 18.
