Youngsters enjoy time on practice range at Scottburgh GC

It's great to see the next generation being introduced to the sport.

It’s a hive of activity on Thursday afternoons on the practice tee at Scottburgh Golf Club.

The tee is open to all high school children who want to learn the game of golf.

Mikhail van Brakel of the golf shop is helping the youngsters, not only in the mechanics of the swing, but also in the etiquette of the game, which is just as important.

Any youngster wanting to come down is welcome, clubs and balls are available, all they need is a desire to want to play this great game.

The tee is open after normal school hours between 15:00 and 16:00.

Deanne Jooste and Dave Sirey walked away with 42 points on Wednesday in a subdued field of members.

John Mills recorded the only 2-club in a betterball Stableford competition.

Maybe some members were waiting for the big one on Saturday.

Mthunzi Hotel and Conference Centre were the hosts with the most on Saturday’s Individual Stableford game which attracted a very good turnout.

There was a count out for first place with John Mills and Kevin Ramkisson tying on 38 points.

John had the better back nine and won himself a two-night stay, bed and breakfast, at this luxurious hotel in Umtentweni.

Pete Gilliver came third with 34 and nearest the pins went to Gerrie Hattingh (2nd), Wayne Simpson (5th and 17th), Jason Gilliver (10th) and Graham Brown (13th).

Two clubs were made by John Mills, Pete Gilliver and Gerrie Hattingh and John made it a hat-trick by sharing the hidden holes with Deane Jooste.

Welcome back to Hans Beuthe – he’s been away in Germany and escaped the cold weather there for some of our sunshine.

On Wednesday it’s a combined Stableford so choose your partner carefully and on Saturday P&G Construction will be hosting their monthly betterball.

Flyer’s footnote: What the 19th hole proves beyond a shadow of doubt is that the Scots invented the game solely in order to promote and sell copious amounts of their national beverage.
