Heat and humidity doesn’t stop Eagles

A field of 64 golfers took to the course on a dry, hot and humid day

When the Village Eagles golfers leave home they all hope to score a birdie or two – that is golf.

What all of them forgot was that we were headed for Scottburgh Golf Club which is close to the Mpambanyoni River.

Now a quick search on Google tells us that the name Mpambanyoni means ‘confuser of birds’ so maybe that is why so few birdies were scored during our monthly golf day. Luckily that was where the confusion ended.

A field of 64 golfers took to the course on a dry, hot and humid day.

Stone Trophy winners (from left) Ken McKenzie, Roly Tickle and Gus Crous.

Sunscreen, large brimmed hats and plenty of liquid, both clear and coloured, were in evidence.

Even the most pessimistic golfer had left his or her umbrella at home.

A cheer loud enough to be heard in Durban went up every time the sun went behind a cloud. All of the aforesaid did not stop the Eagles from having another most enjoyable day.

Once again our thanks go to the management and staff of Scottburgh Golf Club for their great hospitality. Compliments to the club for the good condition of the course and for their help in making the day hitch free and successful.

Enjoying the course a little more than the rest of us were the winners, George Haupt, Les Vince, Trevor Bell and Stan Sim on a respectable 95 points.

Best lady on the day was Cathy Kamstra on 36 points and best gentleman was Dave Craig who collected 41 points.

It seems that the already mentioned confusion is prevalent south of the river as the Stone Trophy was collected by the Pennington team of Brian Green, Gus Crous, Roly Tickle and Ken McKenzie.

Never mind guys, our next game is at Umdoni on March 1 and we are sure things will change. See you all there.
