He ultimately contested for the mayoral position against Leon Garbade of the Democratic Alliance.

Mqadi apologised to the RNM community for the delay in filling the posts, and thanked former mayor Cynthia Mqwebu for the years she served at the municipality.

In an address, he said the new leadership should reach new heights to better the lives of this community.

He also pledged as the leader of RNM and on behalf of councillors that they will deliver services to the community, and always make themselves available.

“We have a 15-point plan to turn around our municipality,” added Mqadi.

Dealing with illegal dumping and maintaining roads are at the top of his list. He also assured households and businesses of an adequate electricity supply.

The speaker, Zodwa Mzindle said she was relieved that she finally has a team to work with.

The mayor had said that he would start working as soon as possible, and he was spotted at a roadblock at the Oribi toll plaza last Saturday.
