Alleged rapist caught for crimes committed in Sheppie and Shelly Beach in 2018

At this stage, the man arrested has not been linked to the most recent spate of crimes in Sea Park, and police continue to investigate.

A man wanted in connection with several cases of rape was arrested at his homestead in Murchison during the early hours of this morning.

An intelligence driven operation by Ugu Operational Command Centre (OCC) and Port Shepstone FCS detectives yielded positive results with the 37-year-old man also found in possession of a 9mm pistol and 12 live rounds of ammunition.

The police believe the suspect will be linked to a number of other rape cases which occurred in Shelly Beach and Port Shepstone during September and October 2018.

The firearm appears to have been stolen in Pietermaritzburg in September 2011. The serial number is still intact and will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the commission of crime elsewhere.

The suspect will make a brief appearance in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court today facing charges of rape and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

At this stage, this case has no link to the Sea Park rape cases.
