WATCH: RNM council meeting to elect mayor postponed for third time

The municipality is unsure when the next meeting will take place.

Some 43 councillors decided not to attend the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) council meeting which was scheduled for today.

This was meant to be the third council meeting for RNM after the local government elections were held on November 1, to elect the mayor, deputy mayor and chief whip.

But again the meeting did not sit as councillors did not pitch.

The Democratic Alliance is unhappy and the Herald spoke to the caucus leader Leon Garbade.

The speaker of RNM Cllr Zodwa Mzindle said only 28 councillors attended the meeting, and therefore the meeting could not continue.

The municipality has sent letters to the MEC of Cogta asking him to intervene.

Municipal manager Max Mbili said they are still waiting for a response from the MEC.

Mzindle said they will issue a statement soon to convey a message to the people of RNM.
