Marburg Primary says goodbye to three sterling educators

She has served as a mentor and advocator of peace to many staff members.

Marburg Primary bid an emotional farewell to three of its staff members during a dazzling function held at the school recently.

These educators are Varuna (Vera) Maharaj, Dorris Shezi and Zanele Mkhize.

Mkhize left on a mutual transfer after spending four years at the school. She is a truly dedicated, vibrant and compassionate educator.

Varuna Maharaj has retired after 38 years in the teaching profession.

Shezi has been an educator at Marburg Primary for seven years and has exited the education system on early retirement. She too has been a dedicated and very spiritual educator.

Meanwhile, Maharaj will be enjoying her well-deserved retirement after a fulfilling career.

She embarked on her teaching career as an educator at Ferndale Primary School in 1983.

Thereafter she taught at Northmead Secondary, Marburg Secondary (1985 to 1987) and Umzinto Secondary (1988 to 1989).

Maharaj was appointed at Marburg Primary since its inception in 1990.

She retired in July after spending 31 years at the school.

Maharaj has been a committed and dedicated educator. She has always valued work ethics and responsibility, yet remained humble and friendly.

Learners loved and respected Maharaj for her compassionate nature as her motherly instincts drew learners to her fold.

Dorris Shezi is taking early retirement.

Educators felt comfortable around her because of her supportive and caring role.

Coming from a religious background, Maharaj has a vast knowledge of basic principles and value systems.

She has served as a mentor and advocator of peace to many staff members.

Besides being an excellent teacher, she is highly skilled in other fields. These include her great talent in sewing, knitting and outstanding culinary skills.

She is also computer literate.

Maharaj has personally faced some challenges, especially the loss of her doting husband Jay.

However, with the support of her children, family and prayer she tries to heal and accept this loss.

After dedicating 38 years towards education, Maharaj will be spending retirement with her mom and family in Durban.

The management team, school governing body, staff and learners of Marburg Primary School wish Mkhize well at her new school and wish Shezi and Maharaj all the best in their well-deserved retirement.
