Tuning In: Scottburgh athletes tackle Christmas challenge

The race is 15km through the suburbs of Westville, and is an absolute must on the calendar of most athletic clubs.

Scottburgh Athletic Club participated in the Illovo Westville Christmas Challenge last Sunday – this is no ordinary race.

It is an annual festive event hosted by Westville Athletic Club.

The race is 15km through the suburbs of Westville, and is an absolute must on most athletic clubs’ calendars.

Club members dress up and run together in a ‘bus’ with a float which is usually filled with refreshments, they sing and walk… and run a bit.

Scottburgh Athletic Club members are all smiles at the latest event.

Many Westville residents cheer the runners on from their pavements and some even provide shooters.

There are prizes for the most festive clubs.

Scottburgh Athletic Club lost a few members on the way who came in with another bus, but fun was had by all!

Thanks to Pick n Pay, Scottburgh Mall for the loan of one of their trolleys which was decorated and used as the float.

The NG Kerk fete takes place at the church premises, Ann Arbor Road, Scottburgh this Saturday (18th). I know the folk have been working incredibly hard towards hosting a really good event.

A reminder, the car boot sale/market is at the Scottburgh Country Club every Saturday from 08:00 – weather permitting. No booking required, stallholders can turn up if interested. For further information contact Robert and Alida Pegram on 084 3099586.

Join the chess class at Relton Hall, Pennington on Fridays from 15:00 to 17:00. Cost is R10 per participant. Contact Silvano Borea for more information on 081 0449342.

To get involved with table tennis at Relton Hall, contact Karen Veleur on 082 7864971.

The Pennington market is also at Relton Hall. It will be held this Saturday (18th).

Carols by candlelight will be held at the Beach Café (kiosk) this Thursday (16th). This is always a popular event. Prego rolls will be served. Bring along your own bottle of refreshment and enjoy the evening. For more info call 082 5575771.

Pennington Conservancy advises that they would like to use the Beach Café for more community events, so the public is asked to contact the Beach Café to discuss requirements for clubs and groups. An art exhibition would be a great idea.
