KZN golf colours for Sabiha

Her latest victory comes as she was crowned silver division winner at the KZN Mid-Am & Senior championships held at Royal Durban Golf Club on August 29 and 30.

Sabiha Bacaus-Hulley continues to rack up victories and with it, her selection into the KwaZulu-Natal team to compete at the Interprovincial Tournament scheduled to take place at Rondebosch GC in October. We couldn’t be prouder of her achievements and wish her all the very best as she dons the black and white for the first time.

Her latest victory comes as she was crowned silver division winner at the KZN Mid-Am & Senior championships held at Royal Durban Golf Club on August 29 and 30. Consistency was the name of the game with rounds of 82 and 83, to secure a three-shot victory over nearest rival.

Sabiha Bacaus-Hulley wins the silver division at the KZN Mid Am and Senior Champs at Royal Durban.

One of our newest members, who has also only been playing golf since late 2020, Magda van den Heever also showed her potential at the KZN Mid-Am finishing third in the bronze division with 34 and 40 points over the two rounds. We love your enthusiasm ‘Max’ and have no doubt that your handicap will continue to drop as your course and competition experience grows.

Magda van den Heever claimed third place in the bronze division at the KZN Mid Am and Senior Champs.

The Saturday competition was a washout and we’re sure the members spent the day keeping warm after record-low temperatures and consistent rain kept us off course.

The monthly Blue Tee midweek competition concluded last week, and it was a tight affair with just one point separating the winner and runner-up. Sue Boucher was crowned the 2021 champion on 144 cumulative points with Harold Horsley in close second, and Francois Rossouw coming in third on 138 points.

One of our new members, Alan Munn, hit the perfect shot to card his second hole-in-one. Opting for a 4-rescue on the 9th hole, one more than he’d usually hit because of the wind, Alan shared that it was a sweet hit that pitched about two metres onto the green and he and playing partners watched as it rolled straight up to the back left pin position before dropping in.

The weekly individual stableford competition continues to attract big numbers and competition is fierce, with better-than-handicap scores regularly posted. Methinks I should be playing more Wednesday golf. Last week’s winner was determined by count-out on 37 points with Evija McKelvey losing out to Richard Andersson. Third, fourth, and fifth places were also determined on count-out on 36 points, awarded to Jacques Kirstein, Russel McKelvey, and Rex Clark respectively.

Best wishes to Sabiha and Natalie Singer who will represent South Coast Region Mkuhla this weekend in the second round of the 2021 Inter-region competition, to be competed over two days at Dundee Golf Club. Travel safely ladies. May your drives be long and puts short as you take on the Presidents Invitational team.

The course will be closed on September 6 and 7 for annual spring treatment.
