Two arrested following Port Shepstone CBD robbery

The sergeants chased after the vehicle up to Dweshula location at Mehlomnyana.

Sergeant Mandla Ndovela and Sergeant Nombongo Ndlamla of Margate Saps were in Port Shepstone CBD last Friday around 17:00 when they were informed of a business robbery in progress at a nearby shop.

While they were still listening to the informant, they saw five males fleeing.

The men jumped into a white Toyota Yaris with no registration number.

The sergeants chased after the vehicle up to Dweshula location at Mehlomnyana.

Members from SAPS K9 and Highway Patrol responded and gave chase as well.

According to police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, when the suspects saw that police were catching up to them, they abandoned the car and fled on foot.

“Sergeant Mandla Ndovela managed to apprehend two males aged 24 and 31 while the other three managed to get away. They are still at large,” Ncane added.

The two men were charged for business robbery and detained in the Port Shepstone police cells.

The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

The suspects appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court on Monday and the case has been remanded to August 12. They remain in custody.

Margate Station Commander, Brigadier William Slabbert commended the members for the good work.

He added that the police have shown dedication and proved that they are working for the South African Police Service, not only for Margate Saps.
