Rescue centre requires public assistance
The centre cares for around 200 township dogs and cats, and currently homes 39 dogs on the 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue farm in Umzinto.
In order to successfully continue changing the lives of abandoned, neglected and abused animals, Umzinto based organisation 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue, requests urgent public assistance this winter.
Ever since the lockdown was first initiated in South Africa and with the recent regulations, times have been tough for many people and businesses, especially non-profitable organisations such as 4 Paws which relies on public donations.
In order to keep its doors open, the rescue centre asks South Coast locals to open their hearts and donate any unwanted clothing to the organisation’s Tale End Charity Shop in Scottburgh.
“We’ve found that the fastest way to generate an income is through the sale of second-hand items, particularly clothing at our charity shops,” explained Nicky Koekemoer, founder of 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue.
“This is why we’re sending out an appeal to the public to go through their cupboards and find any unused items that are still in good condition, but not needed anymore.”
“And if there’s anything sitting around the home that’s unwanted but could be of value to someone else, please consider donating to our store.”
Money generated through these sales will go towards feeding rescue dogs and cats as well as assist 4 Paws with its ongoing sterilisation programme and medical care.
Donations can be dropped off at the Seadoone Vet at 76 School Road in Amanzimtoti or at Tale End Charity Shop in Thira Village just off the Main Road, 142 Scott Street, in Scottburgh. Opening times are 09:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 12:00 every Saturday.

4 Paws and a Tale Rescue has a team of volunteers committed to preventing the abuse of animals and work to re-home rescued dogs and cats to loving homes around KwaZulu-Natal and runs a feeding programme which is carried out every second day and requires more than 50kg of dried food.
There is also currently a need for more foster parents.
“Fostering takes a special amount of love as most of these animals have had a hard life and are not your average house pet, but this is an opportunity to get this dog ready so that she or he can fit into a loving forever home,” added Nicky.
“This might take quite a while so you have to be sure this is for you.”
