Social grant medical assessments goes online

It will reduce visits and queuing at Sassa offices.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is in the process of providing an alternative application method for social grants services.

This will enable those who are equipped to, to apply online reducing queues in local offices. The online medical assessment bookings is an alternative, and will reduce the visits to offices to less than three visits or queueing.

This new online medical booking application process does not replace the visits for medical assessment bookings but is an additional method to make a booking for disability grant medical assessments easier and faster for those with means to make bookings online.

Clients can apply for a medical assessment by a Sassa contracted doctor either in clinic or in the comfort of their homes prior to lodging an application for a disability grant.

A convenient date based on availability and an assessment site closest to the client will be selected. Any cancellation for a booking assessment will result in a new application.

After making an online booking a client will receive a SMS as confirmation and can also check the progress of the application via the web portal. A client is able to cancel an existing appointment and re-book for a convenient date.

Currently the system allows for only disability grant medical assessment using a smartphone or a computer. The system can be accessed from the Sassa website: www.sassa.gov.za

Once this is done a One-Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the client’s cellphone to ensure security and a unique form ID. A confirmation SMS with booking details and screening outcome document list will be sent to the client.
