Margate Saps crack down on drugs and alcohol abusers

The drug task team members also held an operation at Gcilima, Nkampini and the Margate taxi rank, where they arrested four people for being in possession of drugs and for dealing in drugs.

Ten people were arrested last Friday for driving under the influence of alcohol.

They will appear in court soon.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Margate Saps Rapid Response team had held a roadblock, together with Road Traffic Inspectorate, on the R61.

The drug task team members also held an operation at Gcilima, Nkampini and the Margate taxi rank, where they arrested four people for being in possession of drugs and for dealing in drugs.

Drugs such as heroin, mandrax and pieces of ‘rock’ were confiscated by police.

The suspects are expected to appear soon in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court.

Sgt Ncane said that any person who breaks the law will be arrested by police.

“Driving under the influence is a leading cause of accidents and law enforcement will always prioritise these offenders in an effort to protect the public.”

He said Saps Margate would ensure the law prevails as Saps continues with roadblocks and operations targeting drugs and alcohol abusers.
