Pregnant green mamba captured from Clansthal home

The mamba will stay at Crocworld until she lays her eggs, then will be relocated with her babies.

Clansthal’s Swart family who recently returned home after sailing the seas for a couple of years, were greeted by a slithery stranger in their property.

The family discovered a big green mamba laying on a hedge near their house and immediately contacted local snake remover, James Wittstock of Crocworld Conservation Centre.

James was able to safely capture the mamba, and after a quick inspection, realised that she was pregnant.

“We will keep her until she lays eggs, then we will release her and her babies to a safe location,” he said.

A DNA sample from the mamba will also be taken to contribute to an ongoing study on black and green mamba genetics.

Crocworld offers a free service of identifying and removing snakes for the communities of Scottburgh, Umkomaas, Pennington and Park Rynie and can be contacted at 039-9761103 or James Wittstock at 066-2920880.
