New home, new leader for Sheppie pride

Presidential appreciation medals were awarded to past council chairman Denis Meyer and past presidents Jean Masson and Kevin Ross in recognition of their support and assistance throughout the past year.

The Lions Club of Port Shepstone held its 50th presidential induction and awards dinner at its new clubhouse at Port Shepstone Country Club recently.

Special guests at the event included Scottburgh Lions, Zone 10 (South Coast) Chairman Colin and Lion Carol Mackintosh, Kyle and Whitney Enslin and prospective Lion Gustav Lindenberg with his partner Kaye.

During his valedictory speech, club president Alister Love paid tribute to both the Lions and Lion Ladies for another successful year of service to the community despite the setbacks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

He announced that the Lion of the Year Trophy was to be awarded to Kevin Ross in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the new clubhouse.

Long service awards were presented to Hilton Horsley (35 years), Denis Meyer (25 years) and Jean Masson (20 years).

Appreciation medals were also awarded to past club secretary Kevin Ross and club treasurer Richard Borradaile in recognition of their fine efforts.

Eleven club members were presented with award pins commemorating 100 percent attendance of club meetings throughout the past year.

Outgoing Lion Lady President Irene Love thanked the Lion Ladies for their ongoing projects in support of the less fortunate.

Zone 10 (South Coast) Chairman Colin and Lion Carol Mackintosh.

The Lion Lady of the Year award was presented to Lyn Curnow.

Special appreciation gifts went to secretary Cathy Volker and treasurer Jane Massey in recognition of their fine efforts and support.

District Governor Jeff Smith, who is also a member of the Port Shepstone Lions Club, formally inducted Mike Heathcote as club president for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.

In his acceptance speech, Mike thanked his predecessor for his leadership of the club and undertook to further promote membership growth, increased service and fellowship activities for the forthcoming year.
