Halala! Zama joins Ukhozi FM

Apart from spending time honing her presenting skills, Zama enjoys socialising and attending music festivals.

It’s a wrap for Ukhozi FM’s top new presenter search, with the South Coast’s very own Zama Mseleku taking top honours.

Zama (28), from Kwa-Nyuswa, was announced as the winner live on radio on Monday afternoon this week.

This is no mean feat – Ukhozi FM is one of the biggest radio stations in the world and the largest in Africa, with a listenership in excess of 7.8 million over the past decade.

Influenced by her own life experiences, Zama believes in starting where you are, with whatever you have, no matter how little, to build your dream.

Although she says she felt like giving up at times on her journey to becoming a presenter, she adds she always believed she was destined for great things.

Zama says she is grateful to all those who supported her throughout the competition, “especially my South Coast people!”

Asked about her win, she said she is super-excited but emotional.

“I don’t know how to feel, it’s all so emotional. It’s something I’ve always wanted, in fact this is a dream come true for me.”

Apart from spending time honing her presenting skills, Zama enjoys socialising and attending music festivals.

She says she was encouraged by her father who had travelled by taxi in order to accompany her to her very first interview at Radio Sunny South in 2016.

“I was so scared back then, but my father was there with me, encouraging me on what was to be the beginning of my radio journey.”

She encourages other young women to always fight for what they want despite the challenges they may face along the way.

“Not everyone is going to support you. Some will try to sway you to follow other careers if they see your progress is slow, but remember God’s timing is always perfect.”
