Pensioner survives attack

The woman was grabbed by the throat and threatened with a knife.

ANOTHER  South Coast pensioner has been attacked and robbed in her home.

Last Thursday a 76-year-old woman from St Elmo’s, Melville, was watching television when two men entered the house.

The men threatened her with a knife and grabbed her by the throat.

“They then fled with her jewellery, cash and a cellphone,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. No arrests have been made.

“Everyone, but especially the elderly and vulnerable, is cautioned to be aware that they may be watched, especially at night, by opportunistic criminals waiting to seize any opportunity to attack,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

The public is encouraged to draw the curtains as darkness falls and to leave outside lights on for additional security.
