MOTORISTS were thrilled that construction on Centenary Road, Umzinto, was completed on New Year’s Eve.

The road was covered in potholes, and was deteriorating rapidly.

“While construction was in progress, we were subjected to much criticism from motorists, businesses, informal traders and pedestrians as many were of the belief that the timing was wrong, especially as it was during the festive period,” said Councillor Roy Bhoola of the Allied Movement for Change.

Charlene Govender was particularly happy at the renovation.

“I’ve lived in Umzinto for many years, and this was one of the worst roads to drive on,” she said.

“It was very difficult to dodge the potholes, especially at night, and once I even had the misfortune of puncturing my tyre.

“I am very grateful that this road is now repaired and vehicle-friendly once more.”
