High praises for Thuthuzela Care Centre

Minister declares that Port Shepstone Regional Hospital Thuthuzela Care Centre is one of the best well managed units in the country.

There was much excitement at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital recently when Sindisiwe Chikunga, the deputy minister for the Department of Public Service and Administration visited the healthcare services as part of public service month.

Despite her visit being un-announced, she was very extremely impressed with what the hospital had to offer and had only positive remarks for the Thuthuzela Care Centre.

Before she was given a tour of the centre, Bawinile Ndlovu, the hospital chief executive officer, gave an insightful report to Ms Chikunga, highlighting the hospital performance indicators, including its achievements and challenges.

During the tour of the Thuthuzela Care Centre, she was given a detailed explanation about its functions and the processes that clients follow.

Thuthuzela Care Centre is a one-stop facility that was introduced as a critical part of South Africa’s anti-rape strategy, which is aimed at reducing secondary trauma for victims, improving conviction rates and reducing the cycle time for finalising court cases. It also plays a vital role in giving hope and comfort to the victims of rape and domestic violence.

The minister said that the centre is one of the best and well-managed units in the country, and attributed its successes to the remarkable performance and sound management by facility management.

“I met committed people at Port Shepstone Hospital, particularly, Sister Duduzile Ndlovu and the Thuthuzela Care Centre team and I must say, this is one of the best and properly managed care centres I have come across in the country. The victims of sexual abuse coming from within the Ugu District are attended to by people with a high level of professionalism,” concluded Ms Chikunga.
