Author speaks to Jai Hind pupils

Jai Hind Primary extends a heartfelt thank you to Mr Beharilal.

As part of their World Book Day celebrations on April 23, Jai Hind Primary was privileged to have Author Manichand Beharilal visit the school and address Grade 4 pupils about the importance of reading.

Mr Beharilal writes children’s books and has thus far over 40 published books to his name. He is no stranger to the South Coast as he was born in Umzinto. He founded the Manichand Beharilal Literacy Services in 1983 where he travels to schools and empowers pupils with writing skills that will help with their creative writing.

He is a member of the South African Writers’ Circle and has an absolute passion for reading.

He encouraged pupils to read all forms of the written word and said that reading was the key to them developing successful futures. He also urged pupils to remember that their teachers are there to help them grow and develop and advised them to join local libraries and read anything that was of interest to them.

Mr Beharilal strongly believes that the progress of any country, nation or society can only be measured by the education of its people.

He has written and published a novel, Tomorrow’s Dawn and his books for children include Thembi and Themba, and Ayanda books with Thea Wallace. His books have been translated and published in several South African languages with some English titles also available as e-books. Mr Beharilal is also an experienced publisher and editor of several books for literacy Ngo’s and government departments.
