High mileage month for South Coast Striders

There's been plenty takkie 'torque' of late.

IT is that time of year, with the South Coast Ulta and Comrades Marathon fast approaching, that South Coast Striders travel far and wide to tackle some of SA’s top ultras and marathons.

Graeme Milligan, Tarryn Milligan, Hector Macleod and Christopher Mortimer tackled the Arthur Creswell in Bergville.

In the 52km race Hector Macleod clocked 4:40, Graeme Milligan 4:54 and Christopher Mortimer 4:55.

Tarryn Milligan ran 2:03 in the 21km.

Daan van Niekerk and Lindelani Itabor ventured further out and participated in the 48km Irene Ultra near Centurion.

Daan van Niekerk ran a 5:07 and Lindelani Itabor 6:35.

Closer to home 12 Striders took part in the Durban City Marathon and half marathon.

It is a flat course which often produces personal best times and good seeding for 2 Oceans and Comrades.

42km: Heinrich Lotz 3:32, Bongani Mbhele 3:34, George Cele 3:39, Riaan van der Wath 3:43, Hennie Kanfer 4:04, Martin Venter 4:42, Zwelitsha Gono 4:46, Raymond Gaze 4:59, Ajeen Bugwandeen 5:53.

21km: Megan Rowbotham 2:15, Emmanuel Mufamadi 2:15, Nelisiwe Zuma 2:52.

Captain Mark Smith took a small group of Striders out recently to test the 21km route for the upcoming South Coast Ultra.

It is a fantastic route that has a bit of everything – gruelling uphills, speedy downhills and the most amazing scenery.
